Harrold Odell Country Park
A pleasant stroll around water bodies & woodland with bat detectors, while keeping a record of bat activity. A great way to get fresh air in the dark, learn more and see the bats in action. Comfy walking shoes and a torch are recommended. We provide bat detectors. Surveys are open to non members, We're always on the look out for more pair of eyes and ears.

No specialised equipment or previous experience is needed. You don't need
to be a world authority on bat biology. You'll quickly develop the
skills needed and you'd help us to learn more about Bedfordshire's bats,but you please book with Kelly to be sure of getting access to a bat detector.

Location
Harrold - Odell Country Park lies 10 miles to the north west of Bedford. It falls within the parishes of Harrold and Odell and lies on the north bank of the River Great Ouse. The Park lies to the east of the Carlton - Harrold road (Odell Road) and the main entrance to the park is off of this road vehicles from Horsefair Lane, Odell. Meet in the main car park.

In 2008 we surveyed both the green and the red route . We found common and soprano pipistrelles, Daubentons and Noctules, often in very large numbers . This should also be a good site for rarities such as serotines and barbastelle which have been recorded nearby
In 2009 we con concentrated the red route, which has the greater activity This is an excellent site and we regularly counted several hundred passes as we walk round the lake, making it our busiest survey site in the County.
Highlight of the year was finding a number of rare serotines like the one below

Bat walks

In 2008 we ran two very successful fully booked bat walks at Harrold Odell. Walks are limited to twenty people
