On Wednewsday Bob did his final check of they ear at Center Parcs before being joined by Dick and Geraldine for an evening of bat detector surveys.

Geraldine writes

Had a lovely time yesterday evening, we went out on what is probably going to be our last bat survey of this year. It was at Center Parcs, Woburn Forest.

We were with two members of Center Parcs staff, Lucy and Louise, and two other members of the Beds Bat Group, Bob and Tommy. Mostly heard Common and Soprano Pipistrelles, we also saw and heard a Daubenton’s feeding over the lake.

Think we picked up a call of a Serotine, but it was in the distance and brief so not 100 percent positive of that id.

Bob made a recording of the bats’ calls so when he gets time to analyse it he’ll know which, if any other species of bats were around.

This Center Parcs is an amazing site, they’ve taken a lot of trouble to have low level lighting along paths, bridges, and steps to reduce light pollution. The cabins looked very welcoming from our outside view of them. The site itself is much larger than you’d imagine from the views when you drive past it.

We are gpoing to go back to do more surveys nextseason
