There was a real contrast between the serenity of the monastery and the chaos of the bats and cormorants in the nearby trees.

The bats were incredibly noisy

We spent several hours at this site, which gave us a good chance to observe fruit bats behaviour and get peed on.

They spent all day squabbling, dominant animals tok the high roosting places near the trunks of trees displacing lesser animals to the ends of branches

This had a knock on effect as the displacedd bats then wnet and took some one else's roosting place

In between all this there was also a certain amount of courtship and sexual behaviour. Noe the alarming proximity of a large wasps nest

The bats shared their roosts with equally noisy cormorants

We spotted these rather impressive ants on a pile of leaves
