This is a National and now International Project which aims to track the movement of the Nathusius Pipistrelle. This was a little known bat in in England. They are found in Ireland and are known to be migratory. They had been recorded on oil rigs in the North Sea. This project was set up by volunteer bat workers and is providing a fascinating insight into the habits of the bats. Each bat is ringed by an experienced ringer and researchers have found British rings  on bats in Lithuania and Latvia

Key coastal regions were selected for study, but other groups were allowed to join in.This we have done. The catch rate is very low, but we have caught Nathusius at two sites in Beds, and heard them in several others.

We only managed to catch five or six a year (see blog) and spewnt a lot of time coming up empty handed. However in 2016 we  found a male and female in a bat box in September and caught a juvenile
