Updated July 2024

This photo is a photomontage of a Serotine emerging from one of the Bedfordshire Serotine roosts. They gave us a bit of a scare as monitoring them for the National Bat Monitoring Programme in June showed no emergence. The other roost yielded a count of 31 bats – a big increase. However, a second count showed 10 bats emerging, a typical figure.

In more good news, the Soprano Pip roost, which had shown a dramatic fall in numbers,  cheered everyone when the most recent count gave us a total of over 300.

We have had to cancel a number of surveys since April, but have still managed to get significant data using SM4s at a number of new sites.

We are hoping that August is kinder to us and, of course, to the bats.
