This year we have been collecting data for the Pinpoint Bat Project. This has involved introduction to sonograms earlier in the year and a number of people have been very involved since in analysing files.<\/p>\n

Last night we met to do a more advancxd course, which concentrated on how to get through hundred and even thousands of files, without being totally overwhelmed.<\/p>\n

Bob outlined his methods which focussed on not agonising endlesssly and accepting that sometimes you coudn’t hope to identify to species\u00a0 level( those pesky Myosis.).<\/p>\n

After this brief introduction, folk got down to workng through their sounds files, helpng each other and gathering round when some-one had an unusual call. People were s\u00a0 engrossed that they had to be reminded there were biscuits.<\/p>\n

Conclusions included insects were a pain and that social calls were many, various. and largely inpenetrable.<\/p>\n

The evening ended with the technologically minded members of the group talkng about doing a QGIS course. This went over the heads of mere mortals but would mean that keenies coud producee their own maps.<\/p>\n
