Argos have got a special offer at the moment – a basic bat detector for \u00a38. Bill has tried one and range me to say its surprisingly good. ( Most bat detectors start at around \u00a3100.) If you just want to hear what bats sound like this is \u00a38 well spent. They are also available at Toys R us for about a pound more. Several of the bat group have bought one ( allegedly for their children) and we have been impressed. ( OK its not as good as a \u00a3200 or \u00a31000 detector but it’s a good way to start.<\/p>\n

Once you have it, you can check out the sounds bats make with a resource from the Bat Conservation Trust. You need to register with the National Bat Monitoring programme for one of their surveys – the dawn\/ dusk surveys are dead easy<\/p>\n
