One of the most depressing feature of any kind of conservation work is when some one comes along and vandalises your best effort. – be it through mindless graffiti or mindlless tearing down of boxes.
We are running a big box scheme at Priory Count Park We have been having a rather different problem here . The boxes are place high in trees but some vandals are not put off
A green woodpecker found that the bat boxes were ideal sounding boards and gt well and truly stuck in , drilling through not just the top layer but also into the one underneath.
.
Several boxes were damaged. Danny got round this by placing a metal cover over the damaged boxes. Woodpeckers thwarted – result!
