The latest stage in our new cooperation took place when they aided and abetted by the bat group began to refurbish the disused Kodiak Bear den which is know used by bats as a hibernaculum. This is very damp, so the boxes in there were disintegrating and over the years other wood has disintegrated. So it was all hands on deck as old timber was cleared out,
George, a bat group member has built new fan shaped boxes using wood paid for by ZSL. We have also donated some bat bricks
Because of the very solid walls we only succeeded in getting one of the boxes installed, but we plan to go back with a more powerful drill and complete installation before the bats startthinking about hibernation
We finished off the day with a bat walk for the ZSL staff.
