We did a number of very successful surveys at Wrest Park and found a lot of interesting bats. There was a lot of interest from staff and we have developed a good working relationship. Thanks to Amy, who is Great Garden and Trainee Manager we finally got access to the area under the terrace which is a warren of rooms
I
It took 2 hours to search for bats, and there were some areas which were too low ceilinged to check. We found a lot of hibernating moths,
but only a single Natterer’s bat.
It was 10 degrees centigrade inside compared to 2 degrees outside, so it may have been a bit warm.
While we were there we checked The Bath House (above) and the nearby cascade and the Dolls’ House, all of which had hibernating bats at some point in previous years,We found more hibernating moths and a brown long eared
We hope to go back in February for another look
