Some of the group helped the Herts and Middlesex Bat Group hunt for barbastelles last night. The briefing meeting was held via Zoom and routes were allocated. Social distancing was maintained throughout. Some dummy radiotracking tags were hidden in the wood and people who had been allocated to the tracking team tried to locate them. Simple in principle, but the uneven topography was against this, which should make next weekend’s attempt to tag and track some barbastelles a challenge.
The logistics of keeping people apart is hard enough, Methinks actually tracking the bats is going to be hard.
On the plus side there are lots of barbastelles flying about early in the evening, so there are roosts close by. As Sherlock Holmes said ” The games afoot”. Here’s hope the weather is kind next weekend.
