Overwintering bats

When a bat is brought into care, our aim is always to release it back into the wild if it is at all possible. This year we had two injured bats care quite late in the season. One of these was injured by a cat, and his would took a while to scab over properly. We had hoped to release him but the latest run of cold weather has led us to revise our plans and we will be overwintering  him in the hope we can release him next Spring. We will be keeping him in a cool place in the hope that he might hibernate as he has put on enough weight that he has enough food reserves to do this effectively
