One of the highlights of the Bat Group year is the invite we get to the Anglia Wolf Society open day.A delightful way to spend the day, promoting bats while spending times with the Raptor Foundation and alpacas – and a tribe of animal enthusiasts. We had some great conversations with visitors: the woman who looked at the Noctule and said ” she is so ugly, she is almost beautiful”, the woman who found a bat on her bedroom curtain and took it down and moved the whole thing outside (Kel and Hedj are going round there later this week to see if they have a roost) and a farmer who has made her farm a real haven for wild life.

We also had a ringside view of the wolves. At one point they fed the wolves. They hid meat under a number of logs , including one which was so heavy that it was all they could do to leaver up a corner to hide the meat. It took the wolf only a moment to pick up the log with his teeth and expose the meat and demonstrated how accurate the verb to wolf down food was.

We also agreed to another bat walk for the Anglian Wolf Society – This involves no self sacrifice on our part. We did a walk for them a couple of years back and had a hilarious evening. They are almost as mad as we are.

As well as the Noctule we also had a pipistrelle that Kelly collected from a vet, which is making an excellent recovery as you can see in the picture below
