Bat care – an update

Ibat caret might seem that things are quieter than usual at the moment, but that is not altogether true The writer of this blog is currently doing an impression of the bat on the right and shuffling about on crutches and groaning quietly, whilst swallowing painkillers which do what they say on the tin and make her drowsy ( understatement)

Admittedly there has been no trapping for a while  because the bats are giving birth, a fact of which the bat carers are all too aware. There have been a large number of bat calls in the last ten days, mainly juvenile pips. We currently have a juvenile Noctule in care, which Soggy is nurturing.. Young bats are very difficult to keep alive, but so far Soggy is doing well as are Kel and Hedj who are also “babysitting”.

The Noctule in the photo is developing his fur now – new born bats are  hairless. We have our fingers firmly crossed.
