While some of the group have been out trapping. Danny has been sorting things out in Bedford.
On Friday he held one of the three walks he has arranged there. (reduced from five because of staffing cuts, the rangers are now doing this on a voluntary basis,) helped out by 7 bat group members.
Because there are fewer walks this year, he has increased the number of particants to 26 and borrowed extra detectors . To make the event manageable the group divided into two.
There were fewer bats than usual – probably because there are so many insects about the bats do not need to go very far to forage and are eating quickly before hanging up to digest their food ( and think about mating)- but we still saw the Usual Suspects – Common and Soprano pipistrelles, Daubenton’s and Noctules
There is one more walk to come on Friday Sept 12th starting at 7.30, if you want to attend contact the rangers soon as places are filling up. Tel : 01234 211182, or emailprioryrangers@bedford.gov.uk
