This is popular with big bats such as Noctules.This has a little shelf at the base., with an entrance at the front and the rear.Usually you find the bats at the top.

On Saturday, we found bats in one of these boxes, wedged in the gap in the shelf. These were three juvenile brown long eared and were quite torpid. They took some persuading to wake up enough to be processed.
Bob came up with the idea that adults hung tidily, while teenage bats crashed out on the floor.
The melee of legs reminds me of the scene in The Tempest where Caliban mistakes the legs of Trinculo and Stephano sticking out of waterproof for a monster
