We went to give a talk to some scouts at Harrold Odell and then went over to the Country Park to see if we could find bats. It is always a bit of a gamble at this time of year, but in fact the law in front of the visitor’s centre was teeming with bats. Much noise on the detectors and some good sights of bats flying – especially for those scouts who laid down. Favourite question of the night from a Monty Python aficionado – what is the velocity of a fully laden bat ? to which Bob answered as quick as a flash ” African or European”. Cue Python silliness and bemusement from those who didn’t recognise the allusion.
This was a nice way to finish the walk season. Later the group will be making bat boxes but that can wait for a few weeks.
