Now we know one place that pipistrelles hibernate in winter. We have just had two pips a male and a female) brought into care, who had made the mistake of hibernating in a stack of scaffolding boards. These boards were about to be put through a rip saw. The finder put them in a box on a table and the male then did a Houdini number and escaped the box flying laps until offered a hi vis jacket to land on.They are both now in Aidan’s tender loving care and will be released in the spring
There is no evidence that these two are an item but if so it was a close shave for a couple on a quiet retreat., but the date makes the illustration appropriate
