Tree with high bat potential, having both a large woodpecker hole and peeling bark. Photo Bob Cornes
Kel has been leading surveys and walks at Harrold Odell Country Park
for several years now and this Winter and last she organised a survey to look for trees that had roost potential. She carefully documented and photographed every likely tree and at Ranger Richard Dowsett’s suggestion she submitted a report to the Friends of Harrold Odell and asked for some funding to buy some boxes.
To our delight we have just been told that they have given us a £400 for this year and may be able to give us further funding at a later date.
We are over the moon about this as it is such a good site and can’t wait to get started. You can see how good a site it is yourself as this is one of the sites which is open to anyone and there is plenty of parking. The next survey (basically a walk round the lake during which Kel makes recordings of bats that fly past) is on Thursday Thursday 22nd May , meet at 20.55 in the car park. We have detectors we can lend out for the evening.Once again huge thanks to the Friends of Harrold Odell
